A skirmish event that decreases an opponent's strength, Enduring Evil is one of the strongest tools to overwhelm a companion or ally in the game. With the ability to decrease a companion's strength by up to 13 (though realistically much less) Enduring Evil costs nothing and has no written limit to the effect. Most companions' base strength is halved when spotting just three or four burdens, making a minion of the same base strength a considerable threat.
Mass burden removal, such as Gandalf's Pipe or Sam, Son of Hamfast can cripple the Enduring Evil strategy. Moreover, a Free Peoples player may sacrifice a Frodo ring-bearer to pass the One Ring onto Sam, effectively removing all burdens. Eye of Barad-Dur at least guarantees strength -1, as the Ring-Bearer is naturally ring-bound. Another drawback of this card is that it draws and focuses on two different goals - it is first and foremost a pump, making it suited for beatdown decks, but it relies on burdens for this purpose, which is a hallmark of a corruption deck. This is particularly problematic in Fellowship Block, as it is the only strength-related event the culture has access to.
