Maybe one day, even those "crap" Masterworks will be worth 100$.

Ha! If that ever happened, I'd be the first to sell my 15O7.

I would say that most of the old stock of cards has been dumped on the market. Collectors have been gobbeling up as much as they needed to complete their collections. Business people are now trying to cash in on the hype.

When the dust settles, I am sure you will have a pretty similar situation like with Star Trek First Edition, where prices have been going up across the board over the last couple of years. Fewer and fewer people dump their collections and it becomes harder, i.e. more expensive, to get the harder-to-get cards.

With WTG no longer auctioning off foil and non-foil sets of pretty much every set except for hunters block you keep seeing the same lame listings of either crap or over-priced hunters cards.

So, one day these crap MWs will probably be worth $100, but rather in 10 years than in 1 year.

BTW, to keep in line with the thread theme. How much would you value an 0D7 Ordnance Grunt?

30- 40 US$ would be my guess, but as there's no one on ebay, some might spend more for it.

What would you estimate the value of the following to be:

1R50 Legolas, Greenleaf FOIL
1R83 Servant Of The Secret Fire FOIL

I'd suggest $10 each, but $12 or $13 tops.

Really?  Only $10 for Greenleaf?  Aside from the Ring and maybe Goblin Armory I'd think Greenleaf is the most desired foil from FOTR and would be worth a bit more.

Greenleaf isn't in the top 10 most desired FotR cards.

And the fact that Greenleaf (P) is readily available...well, SotSF would be the more valuable of the two.

I would have to disagree on both counts.  Greenleaf is splashable in a variety of decks (including the best 2 fellowship block decks and 2 of the 3 best movie block decks).  SotSF is definitely good, but even taking into account that you want 3 or 4 in a deck it was never played nearly as much as Greenleaf.  Also, I've never met anyone who wouldn't rather have the real Greenleaf foil over the P version.

That's all true, but when you think about the fact that Greenleaf is usually a single copy in a deck, as opposed to any Gandalf deck which almost universally has multiple copies of SotSF, I would suggest that would easily balance out.

As a matter of fact, MuadDib and I were talking about the top 20 cards in value in the Fellowship of the Ring set. Keeping in mind my pension for [Goblin], and his pension for Gandalf stuff, this is what we came up with if we "drafted" out the top 20 cards of the set:

Goblin Armory
The One Ring, Isildur's Bane
Goblin Swarms
Hate
Power According to His Stature
A Wizard Is Never Late
Servant of the Secret Fire
Double Shot
Morgul Gates
Legolas, Greenleaf
The Cave Troll of Moria
Aragorn, Ranger of the North
Orc Bowmen
Savagery to Match Their Numbers
Frodo, Old Bilbo's Heir
Merry, Friend to Sam
Ulaire Enquea, Lieutenant of Morgul
Lurtz, Servant of Isengard
Gandalf, Friend of the Shirefolk
Goblin Scimitar

Something like that. Sure, most people would rather have the Greenleaf over Greenleaf (P), but they certainly wouldn't overpay for a Greenleaf if they had a Greenleaf (P) in their collection.

Ranger of the north is top 20 in value from the fotr? i got it for .50 from sandtroopers post... talk about cards being "value-less" hehehe

hrm...i'd probably put Gimli, Son of Gloin and maybe Narya or Glamdring over some cards on that list...I can't argue with your top 10 though. all good cards

First of all, the conversations were regarding foils. Secondly, there is no way Gimli is more valued than Aragorn. Thirdly, Narya isn't in the FotR set. Fourthly, the price of your Aragorn probably speaks more to the trend of cards being cheap as #$&*@!, not them being bad cards. Finally, you are right about Glamdring...it probably should have been on there instead of Gandalf.

Aragorn, Rotn is definitely better than Gimli... but still, Gimli should've been better than orc bowmen perhaps? or Gandalf? im not going to say goblin scimitar since you do seem like a huge fan of the moria culture hehehe

Gimli, Son of Gloin is one of the third-tier rares from the Fellowship of the Ring set. As for the Goblin stuff, most of the reason that is all up there is because MD and I were talking about splitting a FotR foil set and if we drafted (i.e., I had the first pick and he had the second) that is how it would've gone...I was trying to finish my foil Moria deck at the time (notice how the best of them--Goblin Runner--isn't there?).

That said, the last Goblin Scimitar (foil) on eBay sold for $6. The last Gimli, Son of Gloin (foil) on eBay sold for $4.

Sploosh.
