Count the shadows...

I have some copies of Sedris, the Traitor King sitting around doing not very much and I was just wondering if anyone had some great ideas of how to use him in standard constructed. My main thought is unearthing stuff which you couldn't usually play like Broodmate Dragon (you get one 4/4 Dragon with haste and you get to keep the second 4/4!) or Magister Sphinx (make their life total 10, then hit them with a 5/5 flyer) and then using cards like Corpse Connoisseur, Rotting Rats and Cunning Lethemancer to make sure they go to your graveyard.

Anyway, so my main question is: what do you guys think are the best creatures for this (in standard)?

Thanks. Thumbs Up

Ideas.

Minion Reflector.
CIP based stuff with a Sedris to help it along (Mulldrifter, Shriekmaw)

I think that a lot of CIP stuff is best. That way, it can operate without drawing a Sedris. But Sedris would help it.

I tried this build.

// Deck file for Magic Workstation (http://www.magicworkstation.com)

// Lands
    4 [SHM] Reflecting Pool
    1 [LRW] Mountain (4)
    1 [ALA] Swamp (3)
    2 [ALA] Island (3)
    2 [LRW] Vivid Marsh
    2 [LRW] Vivid Crag
    2 [LRW] Vivid Creek
    2 [EVE] Cascade Bluffs
    2 [SHM] Graven Cairns
    2 [SHM] Sunken Ruins
    4 [ALA] Crumbling Necropolis

// Creatures
    3 [ALA] Sedris, the Traitor King
    2 [EVE] Soul Snuffers
    3 [10E] Gravedigger
    4 [SHM] Murderous Redcap
    4 [LRW] Shriekmaw
    4 [LRW] Mulldrifter

// Spells
    4 [CFX] Countersquall
    4 [LRW] Makeshift Mannequin
    4 [ALA] Blightning
    4 [LRW] Cryptic Command

You got control elements, and you got hand dumping elements. Nothing funner than wiping them with Blightning, holding your Counters back. You've got 14 re-animateable crits (that would actually do something), Gravediggers, Mannequins and of course, Sedris. Pretty much you've got 14 crits that can come back an additional 8 times, and then get unearthed. That's coming into play a LOT.

I think you can tune down a bit on Shriekmaws and a Mannequin, and I'd fit Empyrial Archangel in there somehow (AWESOME Mannequin target!) I'd also tone down Murderous Redcaps for some Terrors, and I'd lose Countersquall for Thoughtseize.

Great, thanks! Gold Piece What do you mean by CIP?

I have mainly Alara block cards so I'm mainly running unearth targets like Broodmate Dragon, Hellkite Overlord and Magister Sphinx. I have 4 Mulldrifters which I've managed to pick up, but no Shriekmaws. I tried playing Gravediggers but they didn't seem to work so well for me. Are they really worth playing?

I'm not very fond of them myself. CIP stants for "come-into-play", meaning effects that trigger when an object makes it into play, like Mulldrifter's ability.

I ended up cutting them, actually, for more burns.
