Hey Cobra... Brad was tricky with this spoiler so I went ahead and posted it here.
Feel free to delete this post and replace it with your own, or edit it with your review of the card!

Riddle 9
When I came to Abraham I let him live just a moment longer. When I came to Moses I saved his life more than once. But the salmon... I regret to say I had a hand in its death.

By all means, if you spot a new spoiler before I do, post it here!
If the new direction Rohan decks are going in turns out to be any good, this will certainly become a staple card. Even without plans to make the Ring-bearer skirmish too often, this new Theoden could see play thanks to his very nice site liberation text. (Warg-riders and Evil Men have had most of the attention lately, but site-control Uruks are looking pretty good after Rise of Saruman as well!)
The subtitle and lore on this card are a little quirky. The actual quote is, "When last I looked, Theoden, not Aragorn, was king of Rohan." And I don’t think we’ve seen a card with a comma in the subtitle (almost like two subtitles: Theoden, Northman, King of Rohan) before. Makes me wonder if "Northman" is going to be used as a sort of unloaded keyword. "Spot a companion with Northman in the subtitle to..." "Each Northman companion in your starting fellowship is twilight cost -1..." |

I was wondering about that too. Seems awfully clumsy, like they were trying to force "Northman" in there somehow. I can just see the discussion now:
"Northman King?"
"Nah, that’s silly. How about...uh...um...Northman King?"
"Let’s just do TWO subtitles!"
The site liberation is very nice, yes, but in my opinion, his strength pump makes him one of the better versions of Théoden singlehandedly. It alone makes a -heavy fellowship much more attractive. With their already-high pump potential thanks to a myriad of possessions, the Shadow player might be loathe to go after the Ring-bearer and pump up the rest of your fellowship in the process. That 1 little strength can mean the difference between a rout by the Shadow player, and a sweeping victory by the FP player.
One other little thing: is it just me, or is this the first time that the hyphen has been dropped from the middle of "Ringbearer"? |

Another mistake with the lore is that they use only "text" instead of "’text’" for when people are talking. Here’s how lore is supposed to work:
An Able Guide - "’text’" because someone is talking.
Albert Dreary, Entertainer from Bree - text because the lore was made by Decipher.
Ancient Chieftain - "text" because the lore is taken from the book but is not spoken.
So, just another mistake (one that is in fact made on many of the cards in this set).
But all that aside, I like him a lot and would use him if I got him. That site liberation is pretty easy to use and is very helpful against all the different forms of site control.
The strength bonus is decent, and it’d definitely be useful in a deck focusing on the new fighting Ring-bearer strategy - comboed with Aragorn, Defender of Rohan, you can give everyone a strength +2 boost. |

Hear hear! So few people seem to take the time to get it right, and when even Decipher starts doing it more and more...well, as Menace put it:

IIRC, Brad mentioned in the RoS thread that there would be "two cards" that keyed off of this subtitle. So I think your answer is yes.
Did anyone notice that the picture is from a very interesting place? It’s from when Theoden looks up and sees the WK swooping down on him.
A very interesting companion, I love that Regroup text!! |

Alright, the "where now the horse" strategy is getting really tougher. 4 good cards helping out, AND the availability of a great strength boosting ring (15R). I love this strategy, and i’m surely gonna make a deck based on it. I’m pretty sure many more cards will come to enhance it, thus it will get even stronger.
According the specific Theoden, he provides a great anti site-control strategy. |
