But you *could* use the staff to make Saruman, Instigator of Insurrection a 5 cost, 10 strength, 4 vitality, fierce and and damage +1 dude with possibly hunter 2... who fights. That ain’t bad!

When I came to Abraham I let him live just a moment longer. When I came to Moses I saved his life more than once. But the salmon... I regret to say I had a hand in its death.

"The staff" being Saruman’s Staff, Wizard’s Device.

Yes, you could use that ability.

No, you wouldn’t. Rolling Eyes

Yeah, I’d just tell my brother that if he didn’t use the text, I’d kill Saruman off with a new card I got, and he’d do it. Twisted Evil

this is deadly. Pop down a War Trident on Bill Ferny, Agent of Saruman during the skrimish phase as well as Gathering Strength and you’ll win the game

I like the fact that Saruman’s ability activates in the skirmish; your opponent can’t know who is going to get a hand weapon, so you can just play possession in skirmishes where it would be favorable. Also, you can use up all the twilight that the Gandalf & Elven followers add.

Move over, Mouth! Saruman, Coldly Still can unearth up to three possessions each time he’s played.

Blasphemy! Evil or Very Mad

Mouth gets out 3 possesions as well, since you gotta be retarded not to play a pavise as the first one. He can also get out CONDITIONS as well. So they uncomparable.

However, Saruman + Bill Ferny + Spear (with str +2 for hunters) + the new mumak = death for any normal ring-bearer...

100% agree Mr. Green Ferny will be at least 11 str without any pumps like Gathering strength or Overrun.
Imagine him fully equipped (with Pavise also) skirmishing the Ring-bearer at Wold Battlefield with Driven From the Plains on the table Twisted Evil

Likewise, you’d be wise to play a Pavise as the first possession on Saruman. Actually that’s better than playing Pavise on the Mouth, since Saruman gets a strength bonus from it. You can assume whatever vitality modifiers you want; the point is that Saruman, Coldly Still can use his ability once more than the Mouth of Sauron, Messenger of Mordor.

"Move over, Mouth!" is of course an overstatement. As you say, the Mouth can also pull conditions, which makes him more great for some Men Evil Men decktypes where Saruman, Coldly Still wouldn’t be appropriate at all. I was just pointing out that for decks that aim for a possession-based beatdown, the new Saruman is the stronger card -- mostly for the reasons I gave that you didn’t quote. Wink

Of course, you could always play both at once to make things really ridiculous... Very Happy

Neither of those activate during the skirmish phase. That’s the power of Bill Ferny.
